Officers must possess unshakable integrity and character given the authority, autonomy, power and trust placed on them by their hiring agency, the Courts, and the communities they serve.
2. To maximize career success there must be a good employee/job fit.
An employee's personality must fit the demands of the job to foster long term success. For example, law enforcement and correctional duties are physically and emotionally demanding, requiring officers to have personality traits fitting with this challenging and stressful work.
3. Personality and character drive performance.
Those who have managed employees can attest that most successes and failures in the workplace are the result of personality and character – not job knowledge or physical ability.
A level of intellectual and physical ability is an essential function officer's must-have. However, misconduct, disciplinary action, and terminations rarely happen due to intelligence or physical ability – they stem from personality, integrity, character, and core belief issues.
